Texaco and Pollution in Ecuador

by Jason November 30th, 2007 - No Comments »

Imagine you’re 75 years of age. You look back at the thousands of purchases you made in your lifetime. Every purchase effected someone or something, somewhere.

Your decisions have power. Share your ideas, products you like, companies you support with your circle of friends. Choose to be someone respectful, responsible and loving. Only 6 degrees of separation ;-) .

Chevron Corporation owns Texaco. Service stations in Canada were re-branded from Texaco to Esso.

Here’s what you can do.

Acetone Anyone? Long List of Chemicals in Mattresses

by Jason November 28th, 2007 - No Comments »

list of chemicals in mattressesWe finally released our list of chemicals found in mattresses. I knew this list existed but had not seen it until recently. Frightening 8O

Glues in our mattresses are never mentioned. There’s still a big huff about fire retardants as there should be. Saving approx 960 ppl/year does not justify dousing our mattressses with enough chemicals to withstand a 2 foot wide blowtorch open flame for 70 seconds. What the hell are they thinking?

Who are the idiots that agreed to this? Hands plz.

Some of us accept the fact that our surroundings are laden with chemicals and wonder why almost 50% of us are getting cancer. In Canada that’s the stat. In your lifetime you have a 50% chance of getting cancer. Maybe carcinogens in our food have something to do with it as well….you think?

Most of us sleep on a plush 1k+ mattress that’s glued together, treated with harsh chemicals and industrial perfumes to mast the chemical odors. The hollow area in the middle containing our fancy $13 pocket coil system acts as an incubator for bacteria and we wonder why we’re not sleeping well.

We have a whole lot of cleaning up to do. ;-)

New Essentia Mattresses Released!

by Jason November 26th, 2007 - No Comments »

We finally unveiled our new line of mattresses. The ClassicMeds are a more affordable alternative to our Energie and Liberte mattresses.

Initially we thought we’d be fine with just the Liberte and Energie. 98% of the population can be fully satisfied by 1 of these 2 mattresses. We soon realized that not everyone is willing to spend 3K + on a mattress.

Competitively priced, the ClassicMeds are far superior to similarly layered memory foam mattresses on the market. They’re topped with 2.5 inches of our proprietary natural memory material. So ppl can get a natural memory foam mattress that’s breathable, glueless and 100% made in Canada.

People now have an option…a 2k spring mattress filled with glue, chemically treated fabrics that might last 5-10 years with a built in incubator for mold in the middle….or….. one of our ClassicMeds. Now it’s just a matter of everyone knowing who we are ;-)

Why Dont Essentia Mattresses Off-Gas?

by Jason November 15th, 2007 - No Comments »

Mattress Off GassOff Gassing from memory foam mattresses seems to be a major complaint among owners. They complain of headaches, watery eyes or crusty morning eyes and sometimes respiratory issues.

Why is your Mattress Off Gassing?
Most memory foams are created using chemicals. Chances are if it’s a cheap memory foam mattress they used cheaper chemicals to produce it. High density foams, which are found in high end mattresses, require more chemicals to achieve the high densities.

Glues are used to bond all the layers together. These glues off-gas as well which some are sensitive to.

So all these chemicals result is a product that offgasses.

Essentia mattresses dont offgas because we use natural ingredients to create our foam such as essential oils and plant extracts.

We dont use chemicals to achieve our density either. Our foam is high-pressure injected into a mold until the desired density is reached. That’s why we make them 1 at a time. If we’d use glue we could make 12 mattresses in the time it takes us to make 1 using our molding technology.

The product is more costly to produce but we believe the health benefits are well worth it.

So all you men out there, here’s more reason for you to buy a new mattress. To all the women, watch out!

Here’s what they concluded:
When asked how a new mattress can improve their relationship with a significant other, Americans reported benefits including:

  • less tossing and turning by their significant other – leading to less disturbances and annoyances during the night (40 percent).
  • encouragement to spend more time in bed with partner (27 percent).
