Is Essentia Endorsed by NFL?

by Jason January 31st, 2008 - No Comments »

nfl mattressQuestion from Catherine in Atlanta:
“An article on FurnitureToday.com says the NFL is endorsing Essentia mattresses. My husband is an ex football player. Why are your mattresses suited for him?”

I don’t know anything about any NFL endorsements….i wish….. but several athletes do sleep on Essentia mattresses. They often communicate back with praise and we get some great referrals from them.

Our Energie mattress works well for athletes because most have wide shoulders and pronounced lower back curvatures. The Energies multiple layers (natural memory foam and latex) allows for a deeper support which accommodates their body types perfectly.

According to a recent Standford University study, athletes who slept more had significant improvements in performance. Hey Manning, you better call quick, we’re counting on you.

The amount of sleep a person gets affects:
- physical health
- emotional well-being
- mental abilities
- productivity
- performance

Owners should be including Essentia mattresses in their all contracts. lol :D

BioFuels Make no Sense

by Jason January 30th, 2008 - No Comments »

I hear congress talking about biofuels constantly. Who’s benefiting?

BioFuels or Agrofuels are the creation of large agribusiness corporations. They’re not green or sustainable.

South America, southeast Asia and Indonesia are clearing land and deforestation is rampant. They use massive amounts of herbicides and pesticides on their crops polluting the water system.

Substituting just 10% cent of fossil fuels to biofuels for all our vehicles would require about 40 per cent of the entire cropland in Europe and North America according to www.davidsuzuki.org.

That’s not even considering the energy requirements to produce some biofuels and the greenhouse gas emissions emitted from these plants. So enough with biofuels already.

More information can be found here www.ran.org
Cargill, Archer Daniels Midland and Bunge are benefiting and are partially responsible for this global catastrophe.

Who raises ppl like this anyhow? :?

Is Your Memory Foam Odorless?

by Jason January 28th, 2008 - No Comments »

Mattress QuestionDanielle Asks:
I saw your products at my local Costco. I was told that the foam was made from essential oils.

Since essential oils are the extracts of the odorant part of plants, I am wondering why I was also told that the mattresses did not have any smell or scent.

I am wondering why, I love essential oils and use them myself, a nice lavender scented mattress seems like a very restful thing.

Thanks,

Danielle

Answer: Everything has an odor. We say it’s odorless because our foam has very little odor, nothing remotely close to all other memory foams on the market. We did this by replacing the chemical ingredients with natural ones such as essential oils, plant extracts and water.

There are 2 major issues with memory foam.
1) They’re not breathable. (because it’s a synthetic material)
2) They have a very strong odor. (because they’re made with chemicals)

By choosing our Natural Memory Foam Mattresses & Pillows you solve the above issues. You may also be interested in our list of chemicals in mattresses.

Health Check is Misleading

by Jason January 23rd, 2008 - 1 Comment »

Health Check It turns out the health check symbol is not what it’s cracked up to be.

Health Check is Canada’s Heart and Stroke Foundation’s food information program designed to help people make “healthy food choices”. So they place this “health check” on products. Dietitians from the foundation evaluate products based on Canada’s Food Guide. The Health Check™ symbol is supposed to have some assurance that each grocery or restaurant menu item contributes to an overall healthy diet.

CBC Marketplace had an episode which pulled the veil from the Check. Companies pay the Heart and Stroke Foundation to have it on their products. The criteria needed to qualify products for the Health Check is very easy to attain. The standards are substantially lower compared to similar programs.

If we were in the States the Heart and Stroke Foundation would have a suit on their hands ;-)

It doesn’t say much about The Heart and Stroke Foundation either. If deceiving the public is not above them, can they be trusted at all? This is a big red flag to many and their operations should be looked into.

Brand Name Mattresses – Yes or No?

by Jason January 6th, 2008 - 2 Comments »

To brand name or not to brand name when it comes to mattresses?

Sealy, Serta, Stearns and Foster are very powerful brands. Do they offer the best quality mattresses? Is it better to buy a brand name mattress? Are you choosing based on fear of making the wrong decision?

You associate these brands with quality mattresses but do they really offer a quality products that last? Do any of your friends say “i just love my Sealy mattress”.. none of mine do …. but Tempur-Pedic owners preach Tempur like a religion.

The mattress industry is one of the few industries that still offer products few know anything about. Spring quality, IDL, mmHg, fabrics, fire retardants, durabiliuty etc, so big brands still have a stronghold on the bedding industry because the consumers are not empowered by knowledge. Serta or Keetsa……well Serta of course right?

Making a decision based on fear is still very real when choosing a mattress. Take your time, do some research and read the reviews. You’ll be sleeping on it every night for the next 10 years. ;-)

Ask your us your mattress questions, we’re here to help.
