Essentia Raises the Bar but Who Cares?

by Jason February 10th, 2008 - No Comments »

I read the Times interview that Seth Godin’s blog post then commented on which mentioned “entering a brand-free market where people have been trained to ignore the various competitors is really expensive, because people aren’t listening, no matter how great your offer is.”

The market is now saturated with ME TOO Tempur mattresses so it’s no longer a brand-free market. All big brands now have their own foam mattresses.

However, Essentia has taken memory foam to a new level. Our proprietary foam is made with natural ingredients and our mattresses don’t contain glue. Measurements indicate we have the best mattress to date but who cares? Publicity in the mattress industry is as elusive as an admission of guilt from your wife.

Stores hesitate to include us because by telling the consumer our foam is natural and mattress glueless compromises the integrity of every other mattress on the floor. “so you mean the other mattresses have glue?”. “so the other memory foam mattresses are made with chemicals?”

Very frustrating but we’re moving along quite nicely anyhow ;-)

Essentia at Sleep Doctor?

by Jason February 7th, 2008 - 2 Comments »

Sleep DoctorQuestion from Jeff in Michigan:
“Is the Essentia Mattress offered by Sleep Doctor in Michigan the same as yours?”

Answer: No, Sleep Doctor does not sell nor are they authorized to sell our products. They may have a mattress called Essentia but it’s certainly not an original Essentia mattress. We’ll have to look into this. Thanks for the heads up Jeff!

This is the second time in 3 months someone has tried to use the Essentia name. On one hand it’s annoying but on the next flattering as hell. ;-)

Freewinds Ship Pollutes in Bonaire

by Jason February 6th, 2008 - No Comments »

Bonaire is an island off Venezuela that’s being polluted by the Freewinds Scientology ship. I’m sure many small islands are polluted the same way.

According to Robert Hare, 5% of the population are psychopathic. Psychopaths thrive in BIG business. They’re all around us.

Select Comfort Bed Reviews

by Jason February 4th, 2008 - No Comments »

Select ComfortI must admit i know little about the Select Comfort mattresses. I know you can adjust either side to accommodating comfort levels. I’ve seen their commercials and assumed it was a good quality bed.

I came across the ConsumerAffairs.com Select Comfort Issues page. Brutal. I then did a little more digging and found another list at ComplaintBoard.com

Buyer reviews on Select Comfort Beds over at Epinons were also interesting.

According to trade magazine reports, Select comfort is the leading bed retailer in the U.S. Lets face it, not everyone will be satisfied with your products so lets hope everyone else is happy. Unhappy customers are usually the most vocal. I wonder what percentage were happy with their Select Comfort bed?

The internet can make or break your company. If you’re product sucks….better run for the hills.

Essentia vs Tempur-Pedic Comparison

by Jason February 1st, 2008 - No Comments »

Essentia vs Tempur-Pedic, check out our new mattress comparison page.

I often get this comment from non mattress people “oh, so you’re like Tempur-Pedic”? My response is always “not quite”.

We’ve really caught the industry off guard. No glues, natural foam, better numbers than the previous leader being Tempur. The big boys are now watching us closely.

A few mattress retailers even “took inspiration” from our approach and created a marketing campaign with our verbiage, look and feel. The difference is they lied through their teeth but no ones the wiser. Kinda like Windows Visa vs Mac OS X. Mac is gaining marketshare but it took time before the public looked passed the bull.

Anyways, the Tempur comparison page gives an nice overview of Essentia’s performance vs Tempur and the no-name memory foam mattress brands. Should be eye-opening if you’re shopping around for a foam mattress.

BTW – if you’re playing for the other team….come join us….we’re better. ;-)
