Anderson Cooper is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt and one of the shiniest stars in news. Now, Cooper has come out as gay in a blog post at The Daily Beast. In a very touching note, he recounts how he kept his sexuality to himself both to remain “a private person” and to protect his safety and the safety of those he was working with in the many war zones that he’s covered. He made the decision to come out publicly since “the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible”. As more respected people like Anderson Cooper come out, the tide of history advances a bit further, erasing generations of hate and misunderstanding.
