Bay Area Computer Recycling Centers

by Adam February 21st, 2012 - No Comments »

Instead of throwing your old computer through a window after it has booted up for its final time, hopefully you are aware that there are better places than others to put your old computer when it is laid to rest.  While you may have the strange desire to jump up and down on it, which will now be easier as your wallet is suddenly lighter from buying a new one, trashing your computer isn’t very eco friendly.

You not only can help the planet, but some recyclers will even pay you for it.  Generally these recyclers are paying you by the weight, so you more than likely won’t get enough to cover the gas it took to drive you there in the first place, but you can still be happy it will be disposed of properly.

Here is a great site where you can find E-Waste Reycylers and places to donate old electronics in the Bay Area.

Bay Bridge Takes President’s Day Weekend Off

by Adam February 11th, 2012 - No Comments »

If you are in the East Bay on President’s Day weekend, and want to drive to San Francisco, you are gonna have to fill up the tank before you get on the freeway.  Unfortunately the Bay Bridge is being shut down for the latest and greatest repairs at 8pm on February 17th and re-opening at 5am on Tuesday February 21st.  This means 3.5 days of driving south to the San Mateo bridge if you have to take your car.

On the flip side their could be a weather issue.  It seems the repair they are making this go round requires good weather, so the closure could be cancelled if mother nature doesn’t cooperate.  All you need to do is to check out  http://baybridgeinfo.org/.  on the 17th to see if they are still on schedule.  If all goes well, and the rain clouds don’t show their faces, I will see you in traffic on Monday morning!

Tesla Model X – Putting the E in SUV

by Adam February 10th, 2012 - No Comments »

The Tesla Model X has arrived, and she is perdy!  Of course, by arrived I mean, they drew pictures of it and put it on their website…  Well that is pretty much all that Tesla does, right?  Hopefully some day they will actually have cars for people to take home with them, and when they do….they is gonna be mazing!

The big advantage of going with Tesla over your average Toyota, is obviously the 0 emissions and the lack of trips to the gas station.  This may be the reason for going with Tesla for most, but I think for me, it’s how they do EVERYTHING differently than the major brands.  They are a company of innovation, coming up with solutions to problems the major car manufacturers care not to solve.

Take for instance their awesome solution to getting in the car.  Rather than just having a door, like every other car company, Tesla decided bird wings would be better.  Check out the awesome gull wing style doors that make it super easy to get to the third row seat.  How about the awesome 17 inch touchscreen monitor that operates all of the functions of the car?  The Tesla designers are truly embracing their Trekkie status, and bringing us right along to “Where no one has gone before!”

Superbowl 2012 – Will The Ads Steal The Show?

by Adam February 3rd, 2012 - No Comments »

The Superbowl is coming up this weekend, and we can only hope that the ads will be as good as last year.  I know that I have spent more on Diritos this year than ever before, because that dog jumped through a door and squashed a bonehead.  Or wait, nope, didn’t buy any Dirito’s… Hmmm…

Well I know that I totally got me a Volkswagen Passat this year because you can turn them on with the force if you wear a Darth Vader suit. Oh wait, my parents totally gave me that car when they bought a brand new NISSAN…  Hmmm….

All I know is, it is totally worth it for those companies to spend millions of dollars in advertising on the Superbowl, rather than making their products healthier and/or cheaper, enticing me to buy more of them.  It’s a good thing companies have their priorities straight, or our world would be pretty screwed up…

Acura NSX Returns – Could It Be True?

by Adam February 2nd, 2012 - No Comments »

Acura has been teasing us for years, promising to bring back the ever so amazing NSX.  Up until now, it has been a twisted game of now you see me, now you don’t.  This commercial should dry up all of those tears, and bring back the love to the upper echelon japanese brand.  Superbowl commercials cost millions and millions of dollars, so I can go to sleep tonight knowing that the NSX is coming soon.

I have owned three Acura’s, and I must say they were pretty fantastic.  The fact that I have been driving for 10 years, and have owned three separate Acura’s says more about me, then it does about them.  I am sure that I would still be driving the 2004 TSX today, had that Z06 Corvette not been so pretty…

Anyhoo, I am sure the price tag is going to be in the 80-120k range, so maybe in 2030 I can pick one up with 2 or 300k miles on it (fingers crossed).

What do yah think of the new body style?  Would you buy one?  Leave a comment!

Politically Accurate

I am not big into politics, in fact, I find the entire thing prettay prettay depressing.  However when you add together depressing facts, and Justin Long in a wig and makeup, it gets funny.  As you might know, Mitt Romney is a bazillionare.  It was recently made known that he makes more than I make in a year in less than a 17 hour period.

With that said he must know how to run our government because he can downsize a company like nobodies bidness.  Come to think of it, isn’t downsizing government what republican’s are all about?

Cook Less, Spend Less, And Eat More!

The hardest part about getting healthy is the eating.  Working out is easy enough once you get into a routine.  Tony Horton of p90x likes to say, “abs are made in the kitchen.”  This is more than true, which is why I have to stop dining at Jack in the Box.  The abs they make there seem to be really low visibility…

I hope this way of putting together your meals can save you time, energy, and money.  Hopefully it will lead to a happier, healthier, you.  If not, sorry for waisting eight minutes of your life…

Feel free to post some of your favorite recipes here on the blog!

Cruise Control Your Way Into A Hydroplane Spaceship!

by Adam January 23rd, 2012 - No Comments »

My favorite feature on a car has to be cruise control.  The beauty of that is just about every car provides “CC” as a standard feature.  So no matter what I am driving; my car, rental, friends car, anything, I have cruise control at my disposal.  The only downside to Cruise Control is my dependence on it.   It has recently started raining here in the Bay Area, and that means its time to switch the good ol’ CC to off.

A lot of people aren’t aware that during the rainy season, it is more than dangerous to drive with CC.  Those that are aware, often times aren’t clear on why exactly that is.  I was the latter until last year when I pulled up my trusty google, and asked the ever so important question.

I found out that the culprit is our good friend Mr. Hydroplane.  Hydroplaning is when your car goes Jesus style and decides to walks on water.  This causes the speed of your car to slow, and your good friend CC doesn’t like that.  So in an effort to get you back up to speed, CC guns the engine and WAHOOO!!!  Well, maybe only wahoo for a few feet until you realize that your car is out of control and in the air at 65+ mph (speeding is bad) and yep, you are about to run into something solid.

So while my right foot’s stamina is lacking, it is worth the extra strain to keep my car from launching me into a a hospital bed.  I hope you agree, and I won’t be seeing you in my rearview mirror with an UH OH face, like the one above.

Mario Kart – It’s Alive!

I still remember playing mario kart on SNES like it was yesterday.  Taking on the likes of Koopa, Luigi, Toad, and the rest of the gang in high speed, high adrenaline, super galactic racing.  It wasn’t enough to be able to bump into one another, but we were given lightning bolts to fling at each other, banana spike strips, and the ever so effective heat seeking shell.

FreddieW and his team have brought the video game to life on a K-1 race track.  If you haven’t seen any of the FreddieW videos, you need to hop over to his youtube channel right about NOW!

Burn Your Backpack Cuz Apple Said So!

by Adam January 20th, 2012 - No Comments »

This video makes me SOOO jealous.  I wasn’t the biggest fan of school, frankly it just wasn’t my thing.  Once I got into high school, I just wanted to be out in the real world.  I was fortunate enough to have parents that really supported my unique desires and allowed me to attend an independent study program.

Instead of traveling to school everyday, I was able to attend class one hour per week, receive my assignments, and take my tests on the material from the previous week.  This allowed me to work full time, and still get an education.

That was the thought anyway.  I did work full time, but I didn’t exactly poor myself into my studies.  I had written them off as something that wasn’t worth my time.  I didn’t want to learn geometry or chemistry.  I wasn’t going to be using it in my career field, so why would I need it?

I am jealous, because if these tools that my son is going to be able to use in his high school, were available to me, I can tell you that I would have been A LOT more interested.  Now, I may just be saying that with thoughts of what could have been, but I have to say that a textbook coming to life would have likely turned my lack of imagination on its head.

Lets just hope this new wave of technology will soon be introduced into California schools and can get them out of the toilet!
