DDP Be All Up In Your Yoga

This was the very last thing I expected to see when I clicked on a weight loss transformation video.  I know that wrestling gets a bad wrap for being fake, but they are definitely athletes.  However, yoga athletes?  I never thought in my wildest dreams I would see Diamond Dallas Page, former WWF/E champion of the world, in a downward dog.

With that said, this is a pretty inspirational video, and it has added around a million views since it was added to the yahoo front page story reel.  I have to say I was motivated to buy me some DDP yoga dvd’s to sit next to my P90X dvd’s.  They are pretty lonely up there on the shelf all by themselves, especially since I used them that one time and got all $125 of use out of them…

Jogging Leads To Bad Science!!

by Adam May 7th, 2012 - No Comments »

Who knew that a study on jogging would result in my first aneurism?  I was intrigued by the headline “Jogging boosts lifespan up to six years, study shows,” so naturally I let my mouse “jog’ its way over the hyperlink and click on the story.  After some cursory reading, it became apparent that I had been bamboozled!

The conclusion is described accurately in the headline, but the quality of the science is rather unsettling.  It would seam that the “researchers” in 1976 put together a pool of 20k people, and identified around 2k of them to be “joggers.”  Then while controlling for nothing else than the fact that they jogged, they came to the conclusion that jogging can add up to six years to your life.

I will be the first to say that I wasn’t the best in science class, but this is just sad.  Someone paid these jokers to do a 25 year study and this is what they got?  How can you come to that conclusion?  Shouldn’t there be more variables?  For example, I know that when I am feeling extra exercisy (its a word), I tend to eat better too.  Wouldn’t it be fair to suggest that these so called “joggers” might have eaten differently than the non joggers?

Well, we will never know, because, hey, just do some jogging at some point in your life, and you will live up to six years longer… Kapeesh?  Me Neither…

Bay To Breakers 19 Days Away

Well it is that time again, and hopefully you have been training.  Well, even if you haven’t that is no excuse to not participate in the Bay to Breakers 2012 12k race coming up on May 20th.  It is not quite as much a race as it is a reason to get funky with yo bad self in front of 60,000 people.  Running the race is all good, but keep in mind you have a chance to win 5 different titles in the costume contest, so get your priorities straight.

Check out this cool compilation video from the 2010 race, and tell me you won’t be there… I don’t believe you….

Pancake Shmancake

Pancakes are pretty much my favorite breakfast food, but they are hard to make healthy.  I have made them sugar free, vegan, and a zillion different other ways, but with a sweet potato?  This concept is new to me.

Sweet Potato’s of course are known to be the best complex carbohydrate you can get anywhere.  Add the protein from the egg whites and you have yourself a complete meal.

I can’t wait to try them!

Healthy Rice Krispie Treats??

Oh no he didn’t!  Did LBL just take rice crispy treats to a healthy notha level?!!?  I love rice crispy treats more than I like socks (yah, I just said that), so this is a big deal for me.  Sadly, or impressively, I can down a Costco size box of rice krispies in one evening.

I am going to run, not walk home and get my rice krispie baking hat on.

What is your favorite lean body lifestyle recipe so far?

Free Dog Training At Its Finest

by Adam April 11th, 2012 - No Comments »

My wife and I recently brought home our new Puggle puppy, Beija.  She is pretty much the cutest and sweetest little thing in the world.  She spent the entire ride home licking my wife’s face, hense the name Beija (means “kisses” in Portuguese).

Of course we knew she was going to be a lot of work, but I hadn’t had to “train” a dog in more than 13 years, and I can’t even take credit for doing any actual training way back then (I was 13).  I remember going to classes with my dad, but he did most of the work, and after 3 rounds of obedience classes, Archie and Veronica, ultimately won and became just mediocre on the obedience side of things.

Well it turns out dog training has come a long way from 13 years ago, and is pretty much out with the old yanking and pulling of choker chains, and in with the new positive reinforcement and rewarding for good behavior.  I have spent the past few days searching around the internet good free information on dog training, and the most complete and quality info I have come come across is a youtube channel created by tab289.

His channel chronicles his own dogs growth and training, but is an excellent source of info on pretty much any dog training subject.  So if you just brought home a new puppy, or are thinking about what it might entail, I would suggest you check out his channel and watch some of his videos.

Healthy And Easy Cooking For Losing Weight – Day 5

I finally got my protein powder from Ambush Nutrition and the first thing that I did was make these brownies.  Not 30 minutes went by that I had the Elite 30 in my hands, there were brownies in the oven.  I had been using Blue Bonnet protein powder, but for some reason it doesn’t mix or cook well.

I decided to add some walnuts to the recipe, and with the batter consiting of mainly egg whites, protien powder, and cottage cheese, these are stupid healthy.  The entire batch of brownies had 88grams of carbs, and no sugar.  A typical 32oz  soda has 82 grams of carbs, and that is pure sugar.

All I am saying is, there is no reason why you aren’t making these right now….  Don’t forget to check out LBL here.

Healthy And Easy Cooking For Losing Weight – Day 4

by Adam April 3rd, 2012 - No Comments »

I like to call this recipe, lunch.  Well, at least it was lunch today, and it was delicious.  The great thing about a chili is how versatile it can be.  You can make it hot and spicy, you can make it cheesy and gooey, you can make it healthy, or you can make it all three.  I really like how turkey tastes in a chili instead of ground beef so this recipe really does the trick.

This chili is also very versatile,  in the sense that if you are trying to watch the carbs, you can drop the beans and still have a quality meal.  I made it just as the recipe said, but I also added some diced mushrooms.  If you throw them in for the last 5 minutes of the simmer they aren’t too soggy.

What do yah think, do you have a favorite Lean Body Lifestyle recipe yet?

Healthy And Easy Cooking For Losing Weight – Day 3

by Adam March 30th, 2012 - No Comments »

Are you tired of your boring ol oatmeal?  Did you know that if you are eating it without protein you are doing yourself a disservice?  It is always better to combine some healthy fats, and protein with your complex carbs so you can refuel your glycogen stores, oil up your joints, and build lean muscle.

Check out this extremely healthy peanut butter oats recipe that Michael at Lean Body Lifestyle put together.  If you follow the recipe as it is, you will want to drink a protein shake with it to balance out the macros.  Or, just do what I do.  I add a scoop of my favorite chocolate whey protein and make a complete meal out of it.  My protein powder is already sweetened with stevia, so I can use less in the overall recipe.

Let me know your thoughts, and be sure to subscribe to his channel!

Healthy And Easy Cooking For Losing Weight – Day 2

by Adam March 29th, 2012 - No Comments »

So here is my second favorite recipe for eating lean, but still tasting great.  My son loves chicken, and fried chicken even more.  Needless to, eating fried chicken isn’t a way to get or stay lean, and boneless skinless chicken breast is pretty boring.

With Michael’s twist on fried buffalo chicken, you can indulge in this high protein, complex carb centric meal.  Just use your favorite spice based hot sauces, some whole grain, gluten free oats, and quickly make a weight loss nightmare into a getting lean dream.

Have you tried any of the leanbodylifestyle recipes yet?
