Occupy Green Street

by Adam December 14th, 2011 - No Comments »

I don’t exactly connect with the occupy movement.  My background is in futures and options trading, and the zero sum environment of the trading pits is as fair as it gets.  Main street doesn’t realize exactly how fair it is, and if they do, they just don’t have the willpower to do anything about it.  Despite what your local occupy patron might tell you, you do have a choice where you put your money.

With that said, go green or go home.  How about investing in businesses that make and use sustainable products?  You can choose to invest in companies that are doing something for the good of the environment and mankind. Granted, you might not make as much coin, but hey, you are going to get screwed anyway, right?

Check out this site for some ideas and names of sustainable companies.  If you have any stocks you are already investing in, please share them with us!

New Iphone 4s? Save The Planet!

by Adam October 16th, 2011 - No Comments »

Were you one of the courageous early risers the other day to grab up an Iphone 4s?

If so, you are now responsible for saving the planet… How does that work?  Sadly most of us who get a new phone will quickly discard the old one to the circular file, without thinking about the repercussions .  This means olds phones, batteries, chargers, accessories, are all going into the trash and off to a landfill near you!

Most folks don’t realize how many toxic metals and chemicals that are used in the making of cell phones.  While contained in your pocket, next to your ear, and on your nightstand, we are protected! (Are we?)  Once the phone is discarded to the landfill where it will be broken, mashed, and compacted, all those not so friendly metals and toxins can seep into the ground and affect our planet.

So what can you do to help?  Just make a choice, that you will stand up for the planet and recycle.  There are many companies out there that will send you a postage paid envelope, where you can send them your old phone.  Not only that, but some companies may even pay you for it.

Of course, you are the type that wants to take it one step further, and really make a change!  So check out Eco-Cell, where you can actually set up a cell phone recycling program for your office or business.  This company will help you advertise and really make a change.

Once you get your program started, please post it here!

How To Get More Green From Your Job Even In These Tough Times

by Adam October 6th, 2011 - 1 Comment »

So you wanna be a rock super star?  Big house?  Five cars?  Well… not in this economy.

How about getting more green from your job by getting a green job?  What is a green job?

I have a green job!  I work at an organic mattress store.  Granted, I could work at the local sleep shop, and contribute to the landfills like everybody else, but nope, green is where it’s at. Sure you could work at a roofing company, or you could add some green to your daily life and work at a solar company!  You get to spend just as much time on a roof, so why not help the environment a little?

Are green jobs falling out the sky?  Well, practically.  There are just as many great resources out there for getting a green job as there are for getting one of those regular, not so green kinda jobs.  You just have to know where to look.

If you want to spend your days making a difference rather than an impact, check out the Green Collar Blog.  They feature jobs that you can not only get paid to do, but will make your friends green with envy.

Have any other green related job sites that you frequent?  Please post them in the comments below so we can all get our green on!
