Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergents

by Jason April 24th, 2008 - 4 Comments »

detergentChances are you know what that big jug is for.

Now imagine everyone in your neighborhood lining up to poor it in the river. Kinda dumb ay?

I contacted my local big box grocery store about this. In their 20 foot long wall of detergents not one was green. The closest they came to an eco-friendly detergent was President Choice’s concentrated laundry detergent which they considered green because it was concentrated therefore came it a smaller bottle. Need i say more?

I wrote them an e-mail about having alternatives. They never responded.

BTW phosphates are no longer permitted in laundry detergents in the U.S.

Here’s a list of eco-friendly cleaners or visit Mrs Meyers, or Seventh Generation.

We used to use green detergent, but had problems with the washer. Apparently the foaming ingredients can clog the drainage pipe. The repair man said he can’t recommend using green detergents as he has seen too many problems with them.

Anyone have any other suggestions? It ain’t easy being green.

Thanks for this information. I like you find it very hard to believe that in todays world that we are actually behind the USA in terms of mandating no phosphates in laundry detergents. I’m utterly shocked and speechless. Such a simple thing with such an incredibly huge impact to the environment.

I’m off to find Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent and do my part in Canada unlike our politicians and greedy corporate money hogs… Shame on them and shame on us for letting this continue to exist!

I saw the same problem and decided to do something about it myself. About 18 months ago I decided to launch my own company to make green cleaning products starting with laundry detergent. After much effort I have finally got it launched and it is doing great! Being a single mother of two girls it was important to have an option that was non-toxic and so http://www.grabgeendirect.com was launched.

If you need some info on it let me know.
