Weeks after Hurricane Ike blew through the oil-rich coast of Texas, more than half a million gallons remain to be cleaned up in the Gulf of Mexico. 1500 polluted sites still remain to be cleaned up.
Toxic chemicals have also been spilled by the hurricane. No major spill sites have been identified – the number given is an accumulation of all sites that have been reported.
