A $20 Billion dollar bill to inject some cash into the US clean energy industry is nearing the finish line. The US House Ways and Means Committee approved the measure, which includes tax breaks to renewable energy companies among other measures. The bill is part of Obama’s plan to create “green jobs” and stimulate the economy while saving the environment. With Senate approval, it will be on his desk to sign by February 16th.
Measures that the bill includes are:
- extension of current tax credits that are already in place by 3 years
- 30% investment tax credit for 2009-2010 for renewable energy projects
- $1500.00 credit for homeowners to improve their energy efficiency
- 30% uncapped tax credit for homeowners purchase of geothermal heat pumps, small wind power components, and solar water heating
