Microsoft has released carbon footprint analysis software for small to medium businesses. The new software, called the “Environmental Sustainability Dashboard”, will allow businesses to establish their carbon footprint without needing to hire outside consultants to do the work for them.  The software covers four metrics:

• direct energy consumption, i.e. natural gas usage onsite
• indirect energy consumption, i.e. power purchased from third party
• greenhouse gas emissions from total energy consumption onsite
• greenhouse gas emissions from business use offsite

The only problem is that it is only available for use with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009.  Good idea Microsoft, but maybe you need to package it in such a way that everyone can get at it.  Those interested can check out the PDF factsheet here.
