LOW VOC paints are now the order of the day in most new construction and in the aisles of our local box stores.

In 2006, paint manufacturers came out with zero VOC paints which aim to completely eliminate harmful offgassing.  Careful with the label though – manufacturers are allowed to use the zero VOC label if they can show VOC’s under 5 grams per litre.  They may still contain fungicides, colorants and other chemicals that are not considered VOC’s.

Benjamin Moore Natura Paint
Very informative page on the zero VOC emission and comparison charts.  Benjamin Moore’s Natura line is below the Zero VOC threshold at 1 gram per litre of VOC.

Ecoshield
This manufacturer also promises that its paints are ethylene glycol-free.
