Obama has put a stop to the abuse of the “roadless rule” that was supposed to limit road building through National Forests. Put in place under Clinton, the rule was quickly stepped all over by the Bush administration by allowing road-building to be mandated at the state level, ensuring that “Red States” didn’t really consider the environment when making their own rules.
Obama has allowed the Department of Agriculture to have oversight on roads that need to be built for essential purposes. For more see the LA Times.
