In the growing fight against agri-business, we rarely see conviction in the form of someone putting their money where their mouth is. Dale Kropf, owner of five grocery stores in Southwestern Ontario, became independent from Sobey’s on July 3 over the issue of local food.
“Most of our beef was Alberta beef. Chicken and pork could be U.S., so to me, that was a concern that, you know, we’ve got all these farmers in our back yard,” Kropf says. Corporate policies did not allow Kropf to supplement his store offerings with local producers, and these policies eventually led to the break. More at CBC.
