Sharp Japan has proved itself to be the pacecar in the race to make racecars green. The company has supplied 2176 special solar cells for the Tokai Challenger project. Each have an output of 1.8 KW and a peak efficiency rate of 30%, astounding considering that the rate for conventional cells is 15%. They are made from rare metals.
The Tokai Challenger race car is being entered into the Global Green Challenge, a 3000 km race for green vehicles, which will be taking place next month in Australia. More at Crunchgear.
