Back in the day, I used to counsel owners of composting toilets to use vinegar mixed with water to clean their composting toilets. Sometimes, I’d get an amazed call back saying that “it really worked well… I’m going to start using that tip everywhere else around the house.”
We are so conditioned to be good little consumers that we often hear such simple tips and scoff at them, thinking that such a simple solution can’t possibly disinfect the way that purpose-built cleaners can. There is also the viscosity problem; we like something that is a bit gunky so that it can coat the surface and “soak” the stain.
Try the experiment yourself for a week. Put undiluted white vinegar in one spray bottle, and hydrogen peroxide in another. Where you want to disinfect a surface, such as kitchen cutting boards or counters, squirt on some hydrogen peroxide after you have thoroughly cleaned the surface with vinegar. If there is no need to disinfect, straight vinegar will do.
This page gives you some great ideas on what else to do with vinegar, including using it as a fabric softener.

I always have a large tub of vinegar under my sink along with another large tub of baking soda. They work really well. Thanks for the reminder and the link.
No problem Melody!
