The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has conducted their first crash tests on the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf electric cars, and they’ve passed with flying colours. One of the concerns that consumers have about electric cars is their safety, since they are new technologies. In fact, the IIHS states that the larger battery packs may contribute to making them safer, since the weight of the pack puts them more into a mid-size rather than small car range for weight, which correspondingly increases their safety.
