Despite being put down as an overhyped term, green jobs really are on the rise in the United States. A green job is broadly defined as a job that has something to do with energy efficiency and alternative energy technologies, such as solar panels. A March 2010 report stated that industry sectors devoted to weatherproofing and energy efficiency would increase four times over the next decade. Sadly, the weatherproofing growth is likely due to climate change factors, but the report stated that growth in those two narrow sectors alone would reach 1.5 million jobs by 2020.
In addition, nearly $500 Million worth of seed funding has been planted mostly in community colleges for green job training. Alternative energy training programs are mostly the beneficiaries of this funding, and anyone looking to go into wind energy or solar panel installation would do well to consider taking one of these courses. Countless trades will also benefit from wind energy infrastructure projects such as crane operators, labourers, ironworkers, and carpenters.
