An electric car made from hemp composites is in the works at Calgary company Motive Industries, Inc. This super-green car is called the Kestrel, and will have a top speed of 90 kilometres an hour with a range of 40 to 160 kilometres.
The composites being made from the hemp plant are impact-resistant, and the hemp for the project is being grown in Vegreville, Alberta. Full details of the vehicle are to be released at the EV 2001 Trade Show and Conference in Vancouver.
