Destruction of World’s Three Largest Rainforests Down 25 Percent

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization recently released a report which shows that the three largest rainforests in the world have seen deforestation decrease by 25 percent in the last decade when compared with the previous one, but that there was still much work to be done on other smaller rainforests.

The three largest forests in the world are the Amazon, the Congo, and the Borneo Mekong in Indonesia. Growing global demand for food will put more pressure on vital ecosystems in coming years, making it essential to continue to protect rainforests and other vital ecosystems.

You can view a copy of the report, titled State of the World’s Forests 2011, online here.
