Eating to Help the Environment

organic foodThe author of “Go Green, Get Lean”, Kate Geagan, has some great tips on how we can change our eating habits to help the environment.  Some of them include:

Meatless One Day a Week
Meat production consumes the most fossil fuels and simply skipping it one day a week can significantly reduce your carbon footprint.

Eat Local

Locally grown and produced foods, organic or not, have a much lower carbon footprint than a fruit that has been shipped here from South America.  Treating exotic foods as a once in a while treat rather than an everyday staple will go a long way towards greening your diet.

Avoid Bottled Drinks
The shipping costs on these are high both in cost and in carbon.  Consider tap water with powder juice crystals or a twist of lemon.
