Give Me Some Sugar!

Have you every read the ingredients on the back of a pack of gum? Most of the ingredients aren’t familiar and the rest is just sugar or a sugar replacer. With more people doing research on the side effects of fake sugar, like aspartame and realizing that it can cause serious health issues, companies like Trident and Spry are thriving.

Both Trident and Spry use a natural sweetener called Xylitol, which is derived from fruits and vegetables. This sweetener is not only delicious but it also helps strengthen your teeth.

Another sweetener to check out is Stevia, this is more common in sugar packets. Derived from sweet leafs, this sweetener is just starting to hit the masses as Stevia In The Raw and is the perfect pair for a cup of coffee or tea.

Now I am confused…is there even a safe ingredient to use in sugar free gum. Xylitol in high doses after 3 years can possibly cause tumors. Stevia could cause dizziness and affect
    DNA.

Hey Julie, Xylitol is safe, the majority of gums that use it have .1-.7 grams of xylitol in each piece. Unless you are consuming 3-4 packs of gum a day, everyday for 3 years, xylitol is a safe alternative to sugar=)
