International retailler H&M has unveiled a new capsule collection of sustainable evening wear as part of their Conscious Collection. Celebrities like Michelle Williams, Amanda Seyfriend and Viola Davis have already been sporting the eco-friendly dresses to red carpet events for the past few months. The outfits are made from materials like organic hemp and cotton or recycled polyester, and retail from about $20 for a top to $300 for a full-length evening gown.
The label has also released their 2011 sustainability report, which reveals they’re the number one user of organic cotton in the world. According to the report, they’ve taken steps to educate their 440,000 Bangladeshi workers on their rights and have donated over 2.3 million garments to charity. They’ve also managed to reduce the amount of water used in making denim by 300 million liters compared to 2010.
