Make sure you only make 1 trip per year to the dump!

So yesterday was a fun filled day helping my father clean out his garage. There were quite a few items he needed to get rid of that were past the point of hand me downs or donations. Unfortunately, the city dump was the final option.

My father lives just north of the city and you can dump as much stuff you want at the dump as long as you pay for it. However there is a yearly freebie of 100 kilograms.

Off we went to the city landfill where we proceeded through check in with the proper ID (drivers licence). We then need to check in with another worker to make sure we are dumping our stuff in the correct bins.

On our way out the woman says that will be $12.50 please. I looked at my old man and said you have already burned through 100 kilos this year? He said no. Now here is the catch; It’s not like you can take 10 trips in one year with only 10 kilos every time. The trip that counts is your first trip of the year. If you are under 100 kilograms it does not carry over.

So the long and short of it is if the city landfill is your last alternative to getting rid of some of that junk lying around your house make sure you make that first trip count.
