Michael Pollan: Buying Organic Key to Avoiding GMO’s in Food

In a lively edition of the Brian Lehrer radio show, organic food advocate Michael Pollan talks about how buying organic food is key to avoiding genetically modified foods. The USDA label requires that foods with their organic label is required to eliminate any GMO’s in its production, so it is still the best yardstick available on the market.

That being said, the same agency’s recent approval of GMO alfalfa jeopardizes the organic dairy industry, who now must find a more expensive crop to feed their cattle. This decision has left consumers wondering where to go to get organic, or if buying organic is still a viable option, which anti-organic lobbyists must love. Pollan’s answer is to still go out and buy organic, as more care is still taken in its production for your safety than conventional products.
