Monk Seals Get Cameras on Back to Protect Them

Photo by US Fish & Wildlife Service

Monk seals in Hawaii are getting a bad rap from local fishermen, who say they are depleting their fish stocks. To get to the bottom of the mystery, government scientists are attaching cameras to the backs of some seals. This way, they can let the seals tell their own story and determine if they need to be herded away from important fishing areas or not. The Crittercams are being provided by the National Geographic society and the seals may even get their own reality show if footage from the cameras turns out to be as stunning as you would think it would be.
