Well no, it’s still yellow but the idea of these taxis will be green.

These happy little Nissan minivans will eventually start to replace the Ford Crown Victorias and other models that currently make up our taxi cab fleet. Nissan won a contest that the city called “The Taxi of Tomorrow” and Mayor Bloomberg announced them the winners last month.

As most companies look to provide cars that will depend less on fuel, it would only make sense that the 100′s of taxis out there in the streets would eventually run on electric power only. The target date is to have them fully electric by 2017.

They will start to show up around 2013 so don’t be afraid to hail these guys down. Now if we can upgrade the drivers too, we’ll be in business
