Santa Monica has been rated one of the best beach cities in the U.S. but like other popular destinations, littering is a problem. Santa Monica State Beach, City Hall and Heal the Bay have teamed up to solve this problem. 500 new trash cans are being designed combining traditional marketing ques and modern smartphone technology.
The new cans are covered with art and a new slogan that reads” Toes in the sand, trash in the can”. They also include Qr linking, which connects smartphone users to the Santa Monica Beachcast, in which they have access to tips to keep the beach clean, a chance to sign up for beach cleanups with Heal the Bay, the latest weather and water quality conditions, community Twitter updates and emergency contacts.
The coolest feature will be the ability to upload their photos of the beach, which will be used to encourage the community to keep the beach beautiful and clean. These three organizations just want to encourage a stronger sense of pride to the ocean.
