Packaged Salad Has High Levels of Fecal Bacteria: Consumer Reports

As usual, the good folks over at the Huffington Post have an excellent article on food safety. Consumer Reports magazine found that 39% of the bagged salad samples tested contained an unacceptably high level of fecal bacteria. Maybe it’s time to consider making your own again, and investing in one of those salad spinners if you don’t already have one. Yikes!

The salads purchased were sold in plastic clamshells and bags. Consumer Reports recommends washing these products even if the packaging says “prewashed” and to use them well before their best-before date. As the video states, the worst offenders were salads that contained spinach.
