Nissan Leaf Electric Car Priced at $33,000 in US

by freshfuzz March 31st, 2010 - No Comments »

Yesterday, Nissan announced that its entry into the electric car market, the Leaf, would be priced at $33,000 in the US. In addition to the sticker price, Nissan suggests a home charging station made by Aeronvironment, which is installed for about $2200 US.

Tax credits are also available at the federal and, in some places, at the state level for the purchase of the electric car. So far California, Oregon and Georgia have announced tax credits for electric car purchases.

The sticker price brings the car in at $7000 under the estimated sticker price for the Chevy Volt of $40,000. Global rollout of the Leaf is due to start in 2012.

China Introduces first Road-Ready Fully Electric Car

by freshfuzz December 15th, 2008 - No Comments »

Deride China and their goods all you like – they just put a black eye on the entire auto industry by making the first mass production and road-ready electric car.  The move comes from a former battery company that transformed itself into an automaker, BYD.  Their name stands for “Build Your Dreams”.

The cars will be available in the US and Canada only when the company can meet safety standards.  The car will sell for $22,465.00 US, roughly the same price as current mid-range automobiles.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway company recently invested in a 9.9% stake in the company.  BYD aims to be the world’s largest car company by 2025 and they are certainly off to a good start.
