Lightbulb Monday … And It’s A Gaslight !

I’ve always fancied myself a bit of a lateral thinker. It explains a lot … my odd sense of humour to say the least. Every once in a while I find a work-around to a problem that seems to baffle some and I like it, I really like it. One of the problems in writing for a company as well as a personal blog is that you might want to post the same information on both blogs. The down side of that is that Google, in it’s desire to catalogue, cross-check, govern and control, doesn’t know that I am the author of material posted on more than one blog. But I, like many others have found a solution, well for the time being anyway … that is until Google starts scanning every image looking for text. So, here it is my little take on the oil industry. You see everyone wants to point their finger at either the country that has the oil, the big business exploiting it or the government enabling the exploitation. My point is that it’s actually the fault yours, the consumer, and the choices you make. You choose to drive. You choose the the fuel efficiency. You choose how often and how far you drive. You choose to pull the trigger, pointing that gas gun at your own personal tank of destruction.

Pound for pound babies ingest way more than their parents in order to grow at the incredible way they do. What this means is that blood tests will show a higher per-pound chemical level in babies, which will fall as they age. It’s not only the voracious appetites that contribute to these readings, but also the fact that babies spend a lot more time closer to the floor sucking up pollutant coated dust and putting random objects into their mouths. Objects covered in plastic particles, cleaners and deodorizers.

This means that the burden on the body’s ability to detoxify is increased and the chance of residual toxins to remain is increased

Something to keep in mind is that low-income households often create more of a danger to babies since the proportion of packaged food is higher and dollar store plastic toys may be a little more prevalent. The lead-based paint on the walls in older homes is also a danger as it decays. Just remember this as baby is cuddled up to you for the night absorbing your love … and everything else.

Between Two Turkeys

October 30th was smack dab in the middle between the two holiday days that Americans and Canadians share, yet celebrate independently: Thanksgiving.

In Canada, Thanksgiving is not a statutory holiday in the provinces of Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. The holiday has its roots in the 1578 voyage of Martin Frobisher, an English explorer in search of the Northwest Passage.

In the U.S it has been celebrated as annual tradition since President Abraham Lincoln, during the Civil War, proclaimed it a national holiday of thanks and praise “to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens”

I’m always somewhat surprised at the differences between the two countries, some obvious and some not so. I thought I might treat y’all to a little lesson in geography. How many American States and Canadian Provinces border on the Great Lakes. If you have a look a the map above, you’ll see that south of the border it’s seven states (New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota) and up in Canada it’s one province (Ontario). The driving distance from Niagara Falls, Ontario to Miami Beach, Florida is about 1,450 miles and the driving distance from Niagara Falls, Ontario to Fort Severn, Ontario is about 1,100 miles. Going south you would travel through New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Heading north you would travel through Ontario … and … uh, no, that’s it, just Ontario. The longest distance North to South (on land) in Canada is 2,900 miles. Know what it is in the United States ? 1,650 miles. So guess who’s the little brother … really. Another little tidbit that will have you scrambling google maps is that the southern most point in Canada is further south than the northern most point of California. Cool huh? … or is that “Cool eh?

Anyone that loves taking digital pictures can join. The idea is to get out and about and capture the beauty that surrounds us … spend some time with others or head out solo, it’s up to you

Please join us the first Sunday of every month in our showroom at 10:00 am. We’ll have the coffee on and you can share photography tips before heading out.

There will be a jar for you to submit a topic to shoot and one will be picked as a bit of a guidline.

Bloodshots – 7 Minute Halloween Movies in 48hrs

Bloodshots is an annual event in Vancouver that happens every year around just before Halloween with a screening of about two dozen short films on Halloween. This years showing is at the Rio Theatre and tickets are available for 8 dollars. That works out to about thirty cents a films. Why not come out and see what tricks Vancouver film makers have to treat you with. Here’s a film a friend of mine asked me to cameo in … have a look and give him a vote … HERE

Low cost housing is a major issue in a lot of countries and plastic seems to be the way of the future. A company in Mexico has come up with a way to process plastic containers into low cost housing. The cost of a new home, a mere five thousand Dollars.

It’s a concept that is reaching into richer countries as well, and of course the price rises. England has a similar concept house that can be built for about forty thousand British pounds.
