Just recently, a young couple came into the store that really love our natural memory foam mattresses and wondered if we have a wedding registry set up. Unfortunately, at this point, we don’t. Being a guy, I want to fix things … and being a father, I want to see a young couple get a good start, so it got me to thinking.
I’ve been involved in the indie film scene for some time now and have helped a number of young film makers in getting funds for them to produce their own films. For them, it’s their “baby”. Not being that much of a linear thinker I put babies, mattresses, film and a happy couple into an equation and came up with indiegogo.com.
Indiegogo.com is a crowd funding site designed to raise funds from many sources. A similar program is kickstarter.com, although it is not as flexible in its approach. Perhaps you are familiar with the 68-year-old bus monitor named Karen Klein, a fundraising program that went viral after tugging at heart strings.
In any event, one of the ways to raise funds through family and friends is to use a crowd sourcing website. An engaged couple could use it for anything from helping out with the honeymoon to getting their dream bed to raising a downpayment for a new home.
